Kathryne M. Morris

When organizations face hard decisions about technology and data—novel issues, or situations where something has already gone wrong—I’m the person they call. They trust me to be direct and to never lose sight of the people facing the problem.

Kate’s practice sits at the intersection of law, data, and technology, advising organizations on how to govern, protect, commercialize, and build with data and AI across the full arc of their operations.

She represents a wide range of clients on matters spanning AI governance and strategy, data law, privacy, cybersecurity, commercial technology transactions, and information governance. Her practice covers the full spectrum of regulated and sensitive data, and a key part of her value to clients is recognizing when a transaction or issue implicates specialized regulatory requirements and ensuring they have the right expertise to address them.

She works closely with clients to understand their objectives and identify risk, keeping an eye on both the evolving regulatory landscape and the client’s broader strategic goals. The aim is to deliver solutions that are legally sound, commercially sensible, and built to hold up as the law and technology continue to change.

Her engagement with AI is not new. Well before generative AI entered the mainstream conversation, she was advising clients on machine learning, predictive analytics, facial recognition, and IoT, at a time when these technologies were just beginning to move from research into enterprise deployments. That foundation shapes how she thinks about the AI and data questions businesses face today.

The solution to effectively solve any client matter must be tailored to that client’s wants and goals. I believe in a tactical approach to every matter that satisfies the client’s overall objectives, whether that’s thinking ahead to prevent an issue, negotiating a resolution to a dispute, or bringing or defending a lawsuit.

Chris Anaya works closely with clients to find effective business solutions to complex business disputes. Through his construction practice, Chris offers clients the full range of services from strategic counsel on transactional matters and project planning to resolving often complex disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation. His extensive construction experience includes representing owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in transactional and litigation matters involving contract negotiations, lien and payment bond issues, construction defects, professional liability for design professionals, as well as many other contract disputes.

As part of the commercial litigation practice group, Chris works with a range of business clients including regional and national corporations in telecommunications, agriculture, real estate, and finance industries, to resolve conflicts efficiently and effectively through pre litigation negotiations, litigation, arbitration, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution.

Chris graduated, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. He received his Bachelor’s degree with high honors in Government with a minor in Philosophy from New Mexico State University. After graduating from law school, Chris clerked for the Honorable Justice Richard C. Bosson of the New Mexico Supreme Court.

David A. Heidenreich

David Heidenreich focuses his practice on every aspect of commercial real estate and energy transactions—from initial due diligence, financing, and acquisition, through development or redevelopment, stabilization, and ultimately to a sale. His real estate experience includes advising owners, investors (both closely held as well as institutional), developers, advisors, and institutional lenders on a wide variety of transactions—including business acquisitions, complex finance transactions, multi-family and hotel and resort development projects, mixed-use projects, industrial warehouse projects, and commercial leasing. His energy practice includes the representation of independent oil and gas operators and developers in all aspects of their businesses, as well as the representation of energy lenders and investors.

David strives to serve his clients not only as a skilled negotiator and technical draftsman, but also as a counselor with the proven ability to help them strike an appropriate balance between legal and business considerations. “I often serve as a sounding board for strategic business decisions,” he explains. “And the reason clients trust me to do so is that I have taken the time to get to know them, what motivates and drives them, and probably even the names of their kids. That’s all part of it for me.”

My line of work is sometimes referred to as “dirt law.” But, like many of our clients, I consider myself to be a builder at heart, both in personality and practice. It is extremely rewarding to help create something out of nothing, to watch as a dynamic project springs forth—above or below— the surface of a formerly raw piece of land, and to know that both that land and the opportunity has been put to its best and fullest use.
