Carrington Coleman's international practice encompasses both transactional and litigation matters.
Carrington Coleman regularly represents foreign-owned companies who have investments and operations in the United States. Our services relate to mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, joint ventures, and financial transactions. The technical side of our representation generally involves advice on U.S. laws regulating investments by foreign-owned enterprises and tax issues unique to non-U.S. investors.
Carrington Coleman's international litigation experience includes a wide range of disputes involving major foreign corporations; in recent years, the firm has represented or opposed parties based in Canada, England, Finland, Germany, Mexico, and Venezuela, among other countries. These representations have included extensive document and deposition discovery overseas, and the firm has developed innovative and efficient ways to manage document-intensive cases involving foreign languages. The firm has represented international parties in ICC arbitrations as well as traditional American litigation. Firm attorneys participate on the faculty of Multilaw's yearly international law training course, have co-authored a leading law review article on Mexican arbitration law, and maintain relationships with foreign attorneys through several bar organizations.
