James E. Coleman Jr.

Senior Counsel

"We don’t have strict sections. We’re in multiple practice groups. Lawyers here aren’t looking to join a practice area and do the same sort of work. They have a variety of interests. If you are creating duplicates of the same piece every day, you aren’t creating, you’re manufacturing."

Mr. Coleman is senior counsel and a founding member of Carrington Coleman. For more than 30 years he has practiced as a civil trial lawyer representing both plaintiffs and defendants in jury trials involving civil disputes of all levels of complexity and in a wide range of controversial matters. Mr. Coleman has tried cases in both state and federal courts in Texas, and also acts as arbitrator in business disputes. His involvement in a wide variety of cases ranges from contract and other business disputes, fiduciary relations, legal and accountant malpractice defense, claims against corporate directors and officers, oil and gas disputes, securities law disputes, antitrust, products liability, and personal injury claims. In the past several years, Mr. Coleman has represented firms and individuals in breach of fiduciary duty and malpractice claims brought by federal agencies and private plaintiffs. He also represents individuals, corporations, banks, partnerships, and joint ventures.

Mr. Coleman has been recognized by Thomson Reuters in Texas Monthly magazine on their Texas Super Lawyers list in business litigation each year since that award began in 2003, and has been ranked in the top 10 in Texas. Mr. Coleman has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America from 1983 to the present and in the 2010 Dallas edition of Texas’ Best Lawyers in commercial litigation, legal malpractice law, bet-the-company litigation, and personal injury litigation. He is also listed as a leading individual of Texas commercial litigation in Chambers & Partners 2009 USA Client’s Guide and has been listed by D Magazine as a Best Lawyer in Dallas in 2008, 2011, and 2012.
