Jim currently focuses on the rapidly evolving major legal issues in the domestic oil and gas exploration and production industry. His practice is centered on counseling companies, boards of directors and committees of boards, and individuals on these matters.

As a board member of Pioneer Natural Resources since 2004, Jim serves on the Board’s Audit Committee, which includes legal oversight, the Health Safety and Environmental Committee, and the Reserves Committee. As an attorney on the Board, he also focuses on overall corporate governance considerations.

Jim’s long legal career in finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance includes significant work in the oil and gas industry beginning in the 1970s. He was a partner in Vinson & Elkins prior to his joining Carrington Coleman in 2004. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since its inception in the 1980s.
